The Inria Grenoble research center groups together almost 600 people in 23 research teams and 7 research support departments.
Staff is present on three campuses in Grenoble, in close collaboration with other research and higher education institutions (University Grenoble Alpes, CNRS, CEA, INRAE, …), but also with key economic players in the area.
Inria Grenoble is active in the fields of high-performance computing, verification and embedded systems, modeling of the environment at multiple levels, and data science and artificial intelligence. The center is a top-level scientific institute with an extensive network of international collaborations in Europe and the rest of the world.
Context
The post-doc will be part of the Thoth team, which is specialized in computer vision and machine learning, and will be supervised by Julien Mairal.
The post-doc will work at the Inria Rhône-Alpes research center near Grenoble. The unit includes more than 600 people, within 26 research teams and 10 support services. Grenoble is a lively city which hosts many foreign students and researchers. Located in the heart of the French Alps its direct surroundings offer great outdoor recreation including skiing, cycling, and hiking. Grenoble is well-connected to Lyon and Geneva airports and Paris can be reached from Grenoble in 3h by train.
Assignment
We are looking for candidates interested in the following topics
• developing machine learning techniques that are data efficient—that is, that are able to
learn without massive amounts of labeled training data.
• optimization for machine learning, with a focus on computational efficiency.
• pluri-disciplinary ML-related research, with potential collaborations in other scientific
fields.
The topic is broad on purpose. We expect the candidate to be autonomous, creative, and ready
to collaborate with PhD students and other researchers from the team.
Main activities
conducting scientific research, communicating ideas, writing papers, write open-source code.
Skills
We welcome candidates with a PhD degree in machine learning or related
fields, with publications in top venues (e.g., ICML/NeurIPS/JMLR for machine learning, Math.
Prog. or SIAM J. Optimization for optimization, CVPR/ECCV/ICCV/PAMI/IJCV for com-
puter vision...).
