Anisotropic mesh adaptation has proved over the past decades its eciency to increase the accuracy of numerial simulations, while reducing its computational cost. ROM also aim at dramatically decreasing the computational time of complex parametrized simulations. The goal of the position is to include a coupling of both methods in an HPC worflow. The context is the European project EuroHPC-02-2019 Eflows4HPC, that aims at designing high performance computational workflows to create and use digital twins of industrial or environmental processes using Artifcial Intelligence and Reduced Order Models (ROM).

The position is part of the European project EuroHPC-02-2019  eflows4HPC, and in collaboration with the partners of the pillar I of  the project: CIMNE, SISSA, SIEMENS and Duke University.

It is hosted at Inria  Bordeaux Sud-Ouest research center and regular travel is foreseen within the activities and collaborations mentioned above.


Assignments :
The successful candidate will consider a prototype of mesh adaptive reudced order modelling developped within the eflows4HPC project and will implement it in the framework of existing workflows developed by the project partners. In particular, they will consider a workflow based on Kratos multiphysics.

Collaboration :
The recruited person will work in close collaboration with the European partners of the project, in particular with CIMNE and SISSA.

Main activities

Main activities (5 maximum) :

  • Get familiar with the HPC infrastructure used in eflows4HPC
  • Select the most appropriate tools to implement the method of interest
  • Implement the method with the chosen tools
  • Assess performance of the implementation
  • Write technical documentation of the implementation

Additional activities (3 maximum) :

  • Contribute to ongoing collaborations with the European partners.
  • Contribute to research articles and presentations on the topic studied
  • Contribute to the open source software used in the project (bug reports, bug fixes, etc.)



Technical skills and level required : Dual skills in numerical methods and HPC is necessary. Excellent programming skills are a must, as well as basic knowledge of numerical methods for computational fluids dynamic (CFD). Knowledge of Linux supercomputer infrastructures,  Reduced Order Modelling or Mesh Adaptation would be appreciated.

Languages : Proficiency in English  is a must.

Relational skills : ready to work in a truly international environnement, within a multicultural team, and to interact with collaborators from different horizons (applied math, engineering, computer science).

the proposed salary is according to the validated diploma as well as the previous professional experiences:

between 2562 euros and 3340 euros gross monthly (before taxes)
