Context

Fed-BioMed is an open-source federated learning framework developed for multi-centric, hospital-based medical research and applications. It focuses on security, access and interoperability with medical data, federated data pre-processing and harmonization, and data lifecycle control by the hospital. It enables secure, privacy-preserving AI on decentralized data while ensuring local governance and compliance with legal constraints. Fed-BioMed creates a community of clinical, industry and academic partners fostering the adoption of collaborative learning in real-world medical applications. Fed-BioMed contributes to several European and national research projects, in partnership with universities, hospitals, research infrastructures, and industrial actors. The position sits within this dynamic research, development, and open-source ecosystem.
This position is integrated to Service des Contrats Européens (SCE) which maximizes the participation of Inria research teams in European projects and ensures that the conditions for effective coordination of European projects are met. The project manager works in close collaboration with the Fed-BioMed governing board, research teams, tech transfer team, software engineering team.
Assignment
We are seeking a Project Manager to coordinate Fed-BioMed’s activities across European and national research projects and boost Fed-BioMed within its ecosystem.
This position comes in the context of 2 financing projects: Horizon Europe project “DTRIP4H” and ANR project “FedOps”.
- DTRIP4H (2025-2028) creates a decentralized digital twin environment for healthcare - (Financing 60% of this position)
- FedOps (2024-2028) operationalizes federated learning usage in healthcare - (Financing 40% of this position)
This role combines project coordination, business development and community outreach. You will manage and support the administrative, organizational, and communication aspects of our projects while acting as the interface between research, development, and external stakeholders. You will ensure compliance with funding requirements, support the development team with project-aligned roadmaps. You will contribute to the visibility and growth of the Fed-BioMed ecosystem, and to the strategy to assure its sustainability.
Project Coordination
- Manage Fed‑BioMed's contributions to European and national projects (e.g., Horizon Europe) and ensure contractual and financial compliance with funders.
- Monitor scientific, administrative, and financial progress; anticipate risks, resolve conflicts, and ensure deadlines are met.
- Coordinate preparation and submission of deliverables and reports; act as liaison with the European Commission, partners, and Inria’s finance, legal, and HR services.
- Lead or co‑lead work packages (software integration, evaluation, dissemination) and translate project requirements into actionable tasks for the development team.
- Contribute to annual and mid‑term planning to align the software roadmap with project needs and maintain clear documentation of requirements and progress.
Business Development
- Identify relevant EU and national funding opportunities. Build and maintain relationships with project partners (hospitals, academic, industrial, institutional).
- Scout and engage stakeholders in healthcare, industry, public bodies, open source, standardization.
- Contribute to the strategy of the Fed-BioMed project with the Fed-BioMed board
Community Outreach
- Maintain a presence across communication channels (GitHub, LinkedIn, newsletters) with updates on progress of financing projects and Fed-BioMed
- Organize and promote workshops, webinars, or tutorials for users and partners.
- Represent financing projects and Fed-BioMed at consortium meetings, conferences, and dissemination events
Skills
Required
- Higher education degree in project management or a relevant scientific/technical field, with the ability to understand engineering and digital research contexts. A first professional experience is appreciated, but strong motivation and willingness to learn are equally valued.
- Knowledge or interest in Horizon Europe funding instruments and the European research landscape. Previous exposure is a plus, but not mandatory for highly motivated candidates.
- Ability to contribute to the coordination of multi-partner projects with administrative and financial dimensions. Prior experience is welcome, but structured thinking and eagerness to grow into the role are key.
- Excellent writing, organizational, and communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, a taste for internal and external networking
- Ability to contribute to external communication, including publishing project updates and supporting outreach on social and professional channels.
- Fluent English and French (written and spoken).
- Availability for occasional domestic and international travel to participate in project meetings, dissemination events and partners scouting.
Preferred
- Experience in European project management
- Background in computer science, AI/ML, or biomedical engineering.
- Familiarity with federated learning, digital healthcare, or data governance.
- Experience in open-source communities and/or R&D environments.
- Knowledge of other European languages.
- Comfortable with collaborative tools (GitHub, Markdown, project trackers
